Since the 1980's, NFS has been the standard protocol for network-attached storage (NAS) systems. However, with the explosive growth of Linux clusters running technical computing workloads in many market segments, NFS is not sufficient for high performance applications. The HPC vendors recognized that a new standard would be required to support the needs of the HPC user community. Led by Panasas and other key storage industry players, Parallel NFS (pNFS) is a key part of the new NFS 4.1 standard and is poised to dramatically improve Linux client I/O performance thanks to its parallel architecture. In this webinar, Panasas will provide the listener with a solid understanding of why pNFS is important, how pNFS works at a high level, and give an up-to-date status of its industry-wide roll-out.
